Sights Unseen
A downloadable game
This game was created for the Game Dev Field Guide Monthly Game Jam #36. The theme of this jam was "Safe In The Dark".
Sights Unseen is a first person experimental game taking heavy inspiration from the game "Scanner Sombre". In this game you must navigate a completely pitch-black cave using only your ears and a LIDAR scanner. The scanner will shoot out rays that will leave markers in the environment. The colour of the markers will help you identify what kind of surface you've impacted with, but they will decay over time! This game features multiple endings.
October 20th - 24th was spent prototyping and validating the LIDAR system along with the character controller and generating a good chunk of the sounds.
From November 6th -10th I created the level geometry as well as some more sounds, including the VO. During this last stretch I also created the fail and win states. An average of 4 hours per day was put in on the listed ranges, or about 40 hours total.
Update: A WebGL build as attempted, but due to how the dots are drawn in scene not being supported, the WebGL build is largely unplayable. We will have to stick with the downloadable exe.
Use of stereo headphones is recommended for the best experience.
